Most of this week's batch is hashtag-spam shorts and clickbait — this one from Km Fabrication is the standout because it tackles a genuinely useful shop problem: what to do when you need to grind a precision cylindrical surface but don't own a dedicated tool-and-cutter grinder.
The build converts a standard engine lathe into a makeshift cylindrical grinder by mounting a powered grinding spindle on the compound slide in place of the tool post. The workpiece still rotates in the chuck; the grinding wheel takes the place of the cutting tool. It's the same principle used on production cylindrical grinders — the lathe's leadscrew and cross-slide give you controlled feed rates and depth of cut that free-hand grinding can't match.
What's worth studying here is the alignment and mounting of the grinder head. Wheel axis, workpiece axis, and slide travel all have to be coplanar or you'll grind a taper instead of a true cylinder. Also watch for how (or whether) they address grit contamination — abrasive dust in the lathe ways is the classic reason machinists warn against grinding on a lathe. A rag shroud or magnetic guards are the usual mitigations.
