What it reveals about the company:

• Managerial pull, not HR push. A team lead posting his own req — and openly admitting the junior role "doesn't have a job description yet" — suggests iRobot's internal hiring pipeline is slow enough that managers are moonlighting as recruiters on HN.
• Embedded talent scarcity. The fact that they'll take 0-2 years of experience with no written JD means they're willing to shape a role around whoever shows up. Embedded engineers are hard to find; iRobot is a decade-plus into competing with Dyson, Shark, and a wave of Chinese entrants for the same tiny pool.
• Still a hardware company at heart. No mention of ML, computer vision, cloud, or fleet-learning — all areas where iRobot has invested publicly. Either those teams hire through different channels, or the embedded firmware group is where the real product bottleneck lives.

Red flags: Onsite-only in a Boston suburb narrows the candidate pool sharply. The "no JD yet" junior role is either refreshingly honest or a sign of an org that hasn't figured out what it needs. And the terseness — three sentences, two Workday links — suggests HN is a fishing expedition, not a serious channel.
