Note: the title styling is unfortunately clickbait-heavy (caps, emojis), but the underlying content is the strongest of today's batch — most of the other candidates are hashtag-spam Shorts with no real substance.

This documentary, presented by British actor John Nettles, covers a corner of WWII that most general histories barely touch: the Nazi occupation of the Channel Islands — Jersey, Guernsey, Sark, and Alderney — from 1940 to 1945. These small British Crown Dependencies were the only British soil occupied by Germany during the war, and what happened there is a quietly disturbing case study in how ordinary civilians, local police, and government officials navigated life under direct Nazi rule.

Nettles, who lived on Jersey for years while filming Bergerac, brings genuine local knowledge. The documentary explores the construction of fortifications (part of the Atlantic Wall, much of which still scars the islands today), the deportation of Jewish residents, the use of slave labor at Alderney's concentration camp, and the moral compromises made by islanders who couldn't simply flee. It's a useful counterfactual lens for anyone who has wondered what occupation of mainland Britain might actually have looked like.

Why watch: A rare, ground-level look at the only piece of Britain Hitler actually occupied — and the uncomfortable choices its civilians faced.
