This is a genuinely clever hobbyist project: rescuing a dead DT-830D multimeter — the ubiquitous cheap yellow meter that sits in every hobbyist's junk drawer — and rebuilding it into an adjustable 0.8V–20V DC bench supply using an LM2596 buck converter module.
The appeal here is threefold. First, the LM2596 is one of the most educational switching regulators to work with — it teaches the fundamentals of buck topology, feedback voltage adjustment via a trimpot, and the tradeoff between switching efficiency and ripple. Second, reusing the multimeter chassis is smart hardware hacking: the existing display, rotary switch, and probe jacks can be repurposed so the finished supply reads out its own output voltage, and the ranges become preset voltage taps. Third, this is exactly the kind of project a beginner should build before their first "real" circuit — it demystifies what a bench supply is, and gives you one for essentially the cost of a $3 module.
From a 4-subscriber channel, so it's an early-days upload worth supporting if the execution matches the concept. Watch for how they handle the input source (wall wart? 12V brick?), current limiting, and whether the original LCD gets reused or replaced.
