Most of today's crop is servo-motor-powers-a-light Shorts with almost no teaching content. This one is different: it walks through building a full-wave bridge rectifier from scratch, which is genuinely one of the most useful circuits a beginner can learn. Nearly every wall-wart, phone charger, and linear bench supply starts with the same four diodes arranged in a diamond.
The build uses classic, cheap parts: a 9V step-down transformer, four 1N4007 diodes (1A, 1000V — the workhorse rectifier diode), and a smoothing capacitor on the output. Watching the AC waveform get folded into pulsating DC and then filtered into something usable is the kind of hands-on moment that makes the theory click in a way schematics alone rarely do.
A few things worth paying attention to while watching: the orientation of the four diodes (get one backwards and you short the transformer), why the capacitor value affects ripple voltage, and the fact that the DC output will actually sit a bit higher than 9V because the cap charges to the peak of the AC waveform (~12.7V) rather than the RMS value. It's also a tiny channel — 6 subscribers — so the algorithm won't surface this one on its own.
