This is part 8 of an ongoing build series where a maker is designing and 3D printing a flying RC model of the Let L-200 Morava, a twin-engine Czech utility aircraft from the 1950s. This episode focuses on the power system installation — fitting brushless motors, ESCs (electronic speed controllers), and the supporting electronics into the printed airframe.
What makes this series valuable is the engineering discipline behind it. Building a 3D printed RC plane that actually flies is a real exercise in weight management, structural design, and thermal planning. Motors generate heat and torque that printed PLA or LW-PLA structures must absorb without warping or cracking. ESCs need airflow. Wiring routes have to balance CG (center of gravity) against accessibility for maintenance. None of this is solved in CAD — it shows up when you physically test-fit components.
